An old story* goes like this.

A guy climbs into an Uber to take him to the airport. The Uber was driving in the right lane when, suddenly, a car pulled out in front. The Uber driver hit the brakes, and his vehicle skidded and barely avoided hitting the car.

The driver of the other vehicle began shouting at the Uber driver. Yet, the Uber driver did not respond in kind. He simply smiled and waved.

Impressed, the passenger asked, “Hey! How did you keep your cool? I was ready to explode!”

“It’s simple,” the Uber driver replied. “I remember The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

The Law of the Garbage Truck? What’s that?”

“A lot of people are like garbage trucks. They operate full of frustration, anger, and disappointment…in other words, garbage. In time, their truck becomes too full. They need to dump some of their garbage. When they do, that place may be—on you. So, the key is not to take it personally when they dump their garbage. Smile. Wave at them. Wish them well. Then, move on.”

So, the next time someone tries to dump their garbage on you, remember this advice: smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

P.S. Beginning next weekend, Judy and I will be entertaining various family members for the Christmas Holidays, so I will take a two-week hiatus on my emails and resume in January.
