We’ve all been there, haven’t we? There is an old story about a farmer who told his wife that he was going out to plow the south forty. The tractor needed oil, so he went to his workshop to get some.
On the way, he noticed that the pigs hadn’t been fed. As he started to feed them, he remembered that his potatoes were sprouting. On his way to the potato patch, he passed the woodpile and remembered that his wife wanted firewood.
By the time he had picked up a few sticks, a crazy looking chicken passed by. He dropped the wood and reached for the chicken. By evening, the frustrated farmer had not even oiled the tractor, let alone plowed the field. Sound familiar?
How often do we undertake something important, but we’re distracted and never finish the job? We can create impressive plans and schedules, but they are useless if we do not follow through on them. Remember, you have the power to change that. Try making a schedule and sticking to it.
A famous man once wrote, “So here’s what I think: The best thing you can do right now is to finish what you started last year and not let those good intentions grow stale. Your heart’s been in the right place all along. You’ve got what it takes to finish it up, so go to it.”
